About this part
The twin-scroll turbo on our EJ207, run at 19 psi on E85 for 220 kW at the wheels.
The VF38 is IHI's twin-scroll turbo from the JDM Legacy GT's EJ20X, with a compressor housing smaller than the VF36 and VF37 — so it spools early and gives away top end — and it is on Betsy's EJ207 running 19 psi on E85. We have left it standard deliberately. On a tarmac stage the thing that wins time is how quickly the engine answers a part-throttle input out of a slow corner, and a bigger turbo trades exactly that away for a peak number you use for a few seconds a stage. With the stock motor, stock heads on upgraded springs and retainers, and E85, this combination makes 220 kW at the wheels and has been reliable — which on a car that has eaten two turbos in a season is the specification that matters.
