IHI built Subaru's factory VF-series turbos, and the VF38 on Betsy's EJ207 is the twin-scroll unit from the JDM Legacy GT. We have deliberately left it standard. The thing that wins time on a stage is how fast the engine answers a part-throttle input out of a slow corner, and a bigger turbo trades exactly that away for a peak figure you use for a few seconds. On a car that has eaten two turbos in a season, the specification that matters is the one that keeps finishing.
